I got my first taste of entrepreneurship at 9 years old. My parents was bent on instilling a strong work-ethic in both my brother and I. I was not pleased about selling newspapers that summer, so I enlisted my then 7 year-old brother to sell my newspapers for me as he sold his.He negotiated a 50% commission and sold newspapers while I played and did other things. I’m not sure who made the better business decision at the time but I know that at the time, an insatiable appetite for entrepreneurship and freedom was born.
My entrepreneurial trajectory has taken all kinds of turns. From contesting in the Miss World pageants to both put St. Maarten on the map and an attempt to get tuition for tertiary education, to running an events business to support students on their academic journey as a student in the Netherlands, being an entrepreneur at heart has ensured that there was never a dull moment.
Some of my biggest gains have come after I returned to St. Maarten from living in the Netherlands for almost a decade. In just 3 years, I have been able to influence more than 1000 entrepreneurs through our premier networking event Power Hour, hosted a popular radio program “Go Get It with IFE”, which focused on entrepreneurship and success, and have been able to work some of the best in the region and in the world.
Now, not only am I the founder and president of INFOBIZZ, a cutting-edge 21st century business support organization, which hosts the #1 Entrepreneurial Getaway in the Caribbean, DOMINATE 360. I am also the CEO of iN4SUCCESS, an innovation and business consultancy, that is focused on creating social and financial impact for both start-ups and established firms.
As St. Maarten’s Ambassador for Women Entrepreneurship Day, joining the FundRiseHER movement is a natural extension of this passion. It allows me and the rest of the dynamic affiliates to ensure that a group of women are financially equipped to succeed in their business. It affords us the opportunity to directly support other women to #GoDominate. I could not be more proud of this initiative and to be part of it.
