Hello all!! I’m Valrie, Country Affiliate for Guyana and Commonwealth Businesswoman Ambassador.
I have had quite the journey as an entrepreneur but I have enjoyed every minute of it- challenges and all. I started my company GeoTechVision, in November 2008 in Jamaica during a recession and amidst the challenges of an illness that diverted funds earmarked to start the business. It was tempting to return to the job market especially given the lucrative offers I received at the time but my desire to make a greater contribution to the region was stronger. I was determined to make it work and with much support from some family members, colleagues and friends I stayed the course.
I started GeoTechVision because I recognized there was a gap in the market for customized geospatial solutions. I believe that it was not enough to sell clients a “”box”” and walk away. We must make the time to ensure that the solutions we provide is perfectly suited to meet their needs thus yielding the highest returns for them. This is what makes a satisfied and proud customer. Hard work, perseverance, passion and dedication mixed with an excellent team have allowed us to grow to the point where we now operate our second office out of Georgetown, Guyana since January 2012. We continue to collaborate to innovate so as to meet the needs of our clients in the over 15 countries that we currently serve.
This passion for entrepreneurship has led to my becoming a Worldbank/Infodev WINC AP facilitator and to developing a business incubator here in Guyana. It is my desire to contribute to a culture of entrepreneurship and to do all I can to assist entrepreneurs, especially our women as they build high growth, vibrant, sustainable businesses that will contribute to the growth and development of our economy. I currently serve as the chair of the Small Business Council and have a vision of innovative entrepreneurship that focuses on new methods, ideas and business models that challenges the status quo and solves big local, regional and global problems, thus creating economic and social value.
This drive has led me to partner with Cecile Watson to have as my flagship project FundRiseHER. Collaborating with fellow women entrepreneurs across the Caribbean has been a privilege and I look forward to all our grantees benefitting from the initiative. I must thank all the male entrepreneurs who have recognized the impact that they can have in supporting this game changing venture. After all, It’s all about entrepreneurs supporting entrepreneurs!
